Dance in Motion

The Independent raves about aWLp’s David Michalek’s Slow Dancing installation in its London debut. Twenty-foot tall screens present an array of dancers in stunning slow motion. Shot at 1000 frames per second, the vignettes put every subtle and intricate movement on display. After opening in Trafalgar Square, the installation is running at the Village Underground until July 24^th.

At Chelsea’s Honey Space Gallery, directors Arni&Kinski recently showed eight large-format photographs and a video installation from their video for “Go Do,” the first single from the eponymous album by Jónsi, solo artist and lead singer of Sigur Rós. The Fuglastrákur exhibit marks the latest installment in a longstanding creative partnership between the directors and the artist.

A White Label Product’s sister company North6 took Prada to Shanghai for Yang Fudong’s “First Spring,” showcasing its Spring/Summer 2010 campaign. The title comes from an old Chinese saying, “the whole year’s work depends on a good start in spring.” Like his previous films, “First Spring” juxtaposes space and time, creating a beautiful and baffling world for the wandering urbanites that are his stock in trade. It combines tradition and modernity, stasis and motion, east and west. The result acts as a perfect complement to the mix of styles and fabrics in the Prada line.
