Cindy Sherman at MoMA

Opening this Sunday is Cindy Sherman, a retrospective of the artist’s works from mid-1970s to the present. With over 170 photographs, this exhibition is one of the most comprehensive one to date of the iconic photographer. As films have been a huge influence on Sherman’s work, she has handpicked an eclectic bunch, from Maya Deren’s Meshes of the Afternoon to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, as a part of special screening in April. For the 17th International Contemporary Art Festival SESC_Videobrasil, Danish artist Olafur Eliasson is showing 10 works that are site-specific to their 3 different locations (Pinacoteca do Estado, SESC Belenzhinho and SESC Pompéia) that offer viewers experiences revolving around perception of color, spatial orientation and other forms of engagement with reality. One of the new works created just for São Paulo was Eliasson’s collaboration with Brazilian filmmaker Karim Aïnouz called Your Empathic City. Now through Jan 29. For more info, click here.
